About

So what’s the deal here?

I develop software for the iPhone. I spend the bulk of my day, seven days a week, writing applications that solve my on-the-go problems. Any app you’re looking at with my name on it exists because once upon a time, I had a problem and couldn’t solve it to my satisfaction with existing tools. I’m not unique in having most of these problems, I’m just obsessive enough to need to build my own solutions.

It’s just me here and for the most part I do most of my own stunts: programming, user experience design, graphics, testing, support, marketing – you name it, it happens from my little office in my little house.

Will you build XYZ app? It would be very popular and profitable.

Maybe I’ll build it. But probably not. I can’t get excited about solving a problem that isn’t my own. My most successful ideas are ones that can sustain my enthusiasm throughout the rigorous, painful process of creating a something where once there was nothing. I also have a hard time addressing a problem that has been really, really well solved already. If I have a solution I already like, it seems counterproductive to try and build my own. I don’t think you’ll see any tip calculators coming from my corner.

I like a particular DC app but it’s missing a feature I’d love. Will you add it for me?

Maybe! Customer feedback is very important to me. If you’ve got a feature you’d like to see added or enhanced in an existing application, you should tell me about it. Not every idea can make it into a shipping product but many feature requests do. Stuff that’s obviously useful and fits in with the existing purpose of the app is your best bet. Nevertheless, feel free and pitch something entirely out of left field, too. If with just a feature or two an application can open up to a whole new scope of usefulness, I want to hear about it.

Your apps look cool but if you’re just one guy, how can I be assured of their future?

The junky, cookie cutter abandonware that litters the App Store sucks. I’m not that guy. I’m in this for the long-haul. I’ve spent a lifetime working with technology and it’s my strongest passion. I’ve never enjoyed anything more than the act of building products that make other people’s lives better. What I lack in hugeass corporatism I more than make up for in tireless energy, enthusiasm and dedication to my craft. Besides, wouldn’t you rather talk to me than be twenty levels away from the engineers and decision makers at larger concerns?

And who the heck are you, again?

mecroppedI’m Danilo Campos. I’m a picky guy who obsesses about minor details and loves to solve problems. The first computer I ever used on a consistent basis was a Macintosh SE. I fell in love instantly. I spent the bulk of my childhood wishing I could learn how to program. Thanks to the magic of the internet, I was able to realize that dream in adulthood and now I use the power of iPhone OS to build solutions to my problems.

I blog over here if that sort of thing is of interest to you. For my fellow Central Oregonians, I run a local consulting practice here.
